BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina

Nestled near the tranquil Badovc Lake, just 20 km from Prishtina, the BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina offers a unique opportunity to witness the remarkable transformation of rescued brown bears. Established in 2013 by the global animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS, this sanctuary serves as a safe haven for bears previously confined in small cages at restaurants, known as "restaurant bears." These bears now roam freely in expansive enclosures that mimic their natural habitats, allowing them to express natural behaviors such as climbing, swimming, and hibernating.

Spanning 16 hectares, the sanctuary is home to 20 bears who have been rescued from captivity and exploitation. Each bear enjoys a spacious environment equipped with trees, climbing structures, and ponds, ensuring their physical and psychological well-being. The sanctuary also features an educational center, "Thesaret e Natyrës," which opened in 2018 to promote awareness about animal welfare and environmental conservation.

Visitors can embark on a 1.5 km guided tour along the sanctuary's trail, where expert guides share the individual stories of each bear and provide insights into bear biology and local biodiversity. The sanctuary also offers educational programs for children and youth, including workshops, quizzes, and crafts, fostering a deeper connection with nature and wildlife.

The on-site vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurant serves a variety of local and traditional dishes, providing a delightful dining experience amidst the serene surroundings.
