"The roots of the National Commercial Bank date back to November 29, 1925, with the establishment of its first branch in the historic building in Durrës, which also represents the oldest financial institution in Albania. BKT, with its current name, was founded in January 1993 through the merger of the Albanian Commercial Bank and the National Bank of Albania. BKT was registered as a joint-stock company in 1997 and is now the largest and oldest bank in Albania. BKT completed its privatization process in 2000, and on June 30, 2009, Çalık Holding became the sole shareholder of BKT. With a consolidated capital structure and a wide range of competitive advantages and dynamics, BKT entered a new phase of successful and sustainable growth.
